What is globalisation?

Globalisation is nothing new as people, countries and continents have always been connected. Modern globalisation has been defined as a lengthening and deepening of the interconnections between places.

This modern globalisation affects people's lives in many ways.

Welcome to Year 12

Welcome to Year 12 and congratulations on successful GCSE results. We would also like to congratulate you on choosing one of the most contemporary and relevant AS subjects available, Geography!

You will be following the brand new AS Geography course run by Edexcel and in Year 12 you will be studying the following two units:

Unit 1: Global Challenges
~ Topic 1 - World at Risk: includes an introduction to a range of global natural hazards which threaten some areas of the world more than others and then focusses on climate change and global warming, seen by many as our greatest environmental challenge. Taught by Mr Rushton.
~ Topic 2 - Going Global: brings together today's rapid economic changes which are impacting unfairly on people across the globe, and the related international issues of population change and migration. Taught by Miss Jordan.

This will be taught from September until Christmas and you will sit one exam on this in January. This exam will last 1 hour 30 minutes.

Unit 2: Geographical Investigations
~ Topic 1 - Crowded Coasts: reveals how increasing development is testing our ability to manage these valuable environments. Taught by Mr Rushton.
~ Topic 2 - Rebranding Places: focusses on how we need to re-image and regenerate rural and urban places, using appropriate strategies. Taught by Miss Jordan.

This will be taught from January onwards and will include a range of research and fieldwork opportunities, including an international fieldtrip! You will sit one exam on this in June which will last 1 hour.
